WINDSOR, Sonoma County — October 29, 2026. Families looking for an introduction to fishing have a free, scheduled opportunity next month: the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Sonoma County Regional Parks are organizing a rainbow trout fishing clinic for children ages 5 to 15 at Foothill Regional Park on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Where is the class, and who can participate?

The event is scheduled for Pond B at Foothill Regional Park, 1351 Arata Lane, Windsor, CA 95492. Participants are directed to the canopy-covered check-in tables near the bathrooms in front of the main parking lot. According to CDFW, the event is free and focuses on younger first-time or developing anglers, with instruction in safe equipment handling, knots, baiting, casting and fishing ethics.

Advance registration is required. Families should select an available time slot on the Sonoma County Regional Parks website or activities calendar and confirm instructions with the organizer. CDFW’s Fishing in the City regional schedule independently lists the November 7 clinic and notes parent supervision or participation.

Are fishing rods provided?

Yes. The November CDFW calendar says organizers will provide all necessary fishing equipment, and participants may not bring their own fishing poles for this particular clinic. The free event is reserved for children ages 5–15. The department says the pond’s stocked fish may be available to adult anglers after the event, but adults need a valid fishing license where required; that is not an invitation for adults to fish during the youth-only clinic.

What should parents bring?

CDFW’s general clinic advice includes water, closed-toe shoes, sun protection and snacks. It recommends a life vest as an optional safety item. Parking may be available in the small park lot and on nearby streets, but families should verify posted local restrictions and not assume a parking space is reserved with event registration.

Participants will learn how and where to fish, but catching a trout is not guaranteed. Program details, cancellation notices and the remaining registration slots may change, so parents should check official updates before traveling.

Other fishing opportunities are not interchangeable

CDFW also lists other regional fishing events in November, but their age requirements, costs, licenses and registration rules are different. Families should follow the requirements of the particular clinic they plan to attend rather than treating all Fishing in the City events as identical.
